The Unexpected Start: Our IDP Journey
Every great journey has a beginning, and for Better Me English, it all started with a memorable, albeit eventful, workshop. It was at an IDP study abroad workshop that the first sparks of Better Me began to fly.
I remember it vividly: we hit a flat tire on the way there, and on the way back, I even took a tumble from my bike!
Despite those little mishaps, that experience was the catalyst. It was there that the vision for Better Me English, a place dedicated to helping you unlock your full potential through confident and effective English communication, truly took shape.
From a Chance Encounter to a Global Vision
The story didn't stop there. On a trip back to Ho Chi Minh City, we unexpectedly met Lucas, an Argentinian traveler, who became one of our very first foreign friends. This chance encounter underscored the very essence of what Better Me English aims to foster: real, natural connections through language. It solidified our belief that English is more than just a subject; it's a bridge to new friendships and global understanding.
Beyond Basics: Board Games and Glimpses of Academic English
And the connections kept growing! Soon after, we met Joel, an Australian friend who shared his fascinating experiences, both happy and challenging, living in Vietnam.
We were first introduced to the strategic board game Catan through Joel. More importantly, his deep knowledge of academic language and literature truly impressed us, highlighting the incredible depth and breadth that English can unlock. These diverse encounters continually reinforce our commitment to making you a global communicator.
A Farewell, A New Connection
The connections grew, and soon it was time to say farewell as Joel headed back to Australia. Before he left, we captured this candid moment in a Polaroid, a treasured souvenir he took home.
It was during this time that we also had the chance to meet Alan, a new American friend, who shared valuable insights about teaching English in Vietnam. These moments, filled with shared stories and diverse perspectives, deeply shaped our understanding of language learning and the power of global connections. They constantly remind us that every interaction in English is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build bridges.
Better Me, Better Be: A Vision Takes Flight
And the journey continues to inspire us through the success of our community. One evening in March 2024, my phone rang. It was Chris, a valued member of our Better Me family, excitedly telling me his company had just offered him a month-long training in the Philippines! This was a powerful moment, embodying everything we strive for: "Better Me, Better Be."
It's not just about learning English; it's about how improved communication skills open doors, create new opportunities, and empower you to become the best version of yourself, ready for whatever the world offers. Chris's news truly underscored the real-world impact of our mission.
Embracing Global Friendship
Our global connections didn't stop there. Not long after Chris returned from the Philippines, his friend Raph, who is from the Philippines, paid us a visit right here in Vietnam! We enjoyed a warm, intimate conversation, taking the opportunity to share Vietnamese culture and cuisine with him.
These moments of genuine connection, facilitated by English, are at the heart of Better Me. They show how language truly builds bridges between people and cultures, turning strangers into friends.
A Christmas Together: Laughter and Vietnamese Love
The connections continued to blossom. Through a language exchange, we met Cameron, an Australian friend whose immense love for Vietnam led him to visit for a month.
His humor and dedication to embracing Vietnamese life perfectly highlight the vibrant, connected community we cherish. We even had the joy of celebrating Christmas together here in Vietnam, alongside the Better Me family, proving how English truly opens doors to genuine friendships and shared joyous moments.

As our network of global friendships grew and the real-world impact of our mission became undeniable, it was clear: Better Me needed a face, a symbol to represent our vision. This led to the birth of our logo.
More than just an image, our logo embodies everything we stand for: progress, connection, and the journey of becoming a "Better Me" through English. It marks a significant milestone, solidifying our presence and inviting more learners to join our growing community.
The Missing Piece: Tracy's Arrival
As our network expanded and our vision solidified with the birth of our logo, it became clear we needed a unique talent to truly bring our mission to life. Then, as if by destiny across half the globe, we met Tracy – the pivotal piece of the Better Me puzzle. From Canada, Tracy joined us for an online meeting, radiating passion for helping fellow Vietnamese navigate the challenges of English communication, just as she once did.
Tracy represents the invaluable experience of a Vietnamese person thriving in Canada. Her deep understanding and genuine desire to connect learners with effective solutions perfectly aligned with our values, making her an indispensable part of the Better Me family.
